Gua Sha
Gua Sha involves scraping a stone across the skin to improve circulation, release muscle tension, and promote healing by enhancing blood flow and reducing inflammation.
Gua Sha, also known as “scraping therapy,” is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique.

Gua Sha, also known as “scraping therapy,” is a Classical Chinese Medicine technique used to promote circulation and alleviate various health issues. Gua Sha involves using a flat, smooth-edged tool traditionally made from jade, ceramic, or metal to gently scrape or rub the skin over specific areas of the body. The scraping action creates friction, which stimulates microcirculation of the soft tissue, promoting blood flow, Qi, and lymphatic drainage.
By scraping the skin, Gua Sha aims to release stagnant blood and improve circulation. In TCM, stagnant blood and Qi are believed to contribute to pain and illness. Gua Sha is used to break up adhesions and knots in the muscles and fascia. This can help alleviate muscle pain, stiffness, and tension. The scraping action is thought to stimulate the lymphatic system, aiding in the removal of toxins and promoting a healthier immune response.
Gua Sha is especially effective for muscle and joint pain, including conditions like neck and back pain.
Gua Sha is also used to break up adhesions and scar tissue, which can restrict movement and contribute to chronic pain.
Gua Sha is generally safe. The appearance of sha is a normal response and typically fades within a few days. It is important to communicate any pre-existing skin conditions or sensitivities with your practitioner.
