Dry Needling
Dry needling is a technique used to relieve pain, muscle tension and musculoskeletal dysfunction by targeting myofascial trigger points.
Dry needling targets “trigger points,” which are tight, painful areas in muscles that can cause discomfort and restrict movement.

Unlike traditional acupuncture, which is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which aims to balance energy flow in the body, dry needling focuses specifically on musculoskeletal issues. It is typically based on Western medical principles, focusing on specific anatomical and physiological responses rather than the meridian system used in traditional acupuncture. Dry needling targets “trigger points,” which are tight, painful areas in muscles that can cause discomfort and restrict movement. These trigger points are sometimes referred to as “muscle knots.” Thin, solid needles are inserted into the trigger points.
The goal is to elicit a local twitch response or a mild, twitch-like reaction in the muscle, which can help release the tightness and reduce pain. The insertion of the needle is thought to cause micro-trauma to the muscle tissue. This can stimulate the body’s natural healing response, improve blood flow, and reduce muscle tension. Dry needling can help with pain relief, improved range of motion, and reduced muscle tension.
